Facet
FACET is a small one button timing game about cutting crystals in a jewel shop.
A stone sits on the counter. A needle sweeps a dial around it, and one facet of the stone is lit along the rim. Press space (or click) while the needle is inside that facet and the facet comes off clean. Hit the middle of it and the cut is perfect. Hit the white band at the edges and you chip the stone, which breaks your chain. Three flaws and the shop closes for the day.
Every facet you cut adds to what the stone is worth. When the stone is finished the shop buys it on the spot, and pays worth times tier times chain. Then it deals the next stone, narrower and faster than the one before.
There is a tutorial in the options menu if you want the ropes shown to you, along with sound and music levels and an input offset setting you can dial yourself if your display or your input runs a little late.
Controls: space or click to cut, esc to hold a run, m to mute.
FACET was made for Mini Jam 220. The theme was Crystal and the limitation was Timing is everything, which is where the one button dial came from: the whole game is one well timed press, over and over, tightening as the run goes. It was built inside the jam's 72 hours.
Credits: the interface art (the frames, the icons and the level meters) is from Krishna Palacio's MiniFantasy UI Overhaul pack, used under that pack's license. Everything else, the shop, the dial, the stone, the display case, the tutorial's little crystal, the font, the sounds and the music, was made for this project.
Thanks for playing.
